| Tasting Notes: | With lively aromatics and rich, complex flavors, our 2006 Provenance Vineyards Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon captures the famous attributes of Napa Valley’s famous Rutherford region. The wine’s aromas open with lush black cherry and blackberry character, infused with subtle hints of mocha, flinty minerality and black tea. Its expansive fruit flavors are packed with ripe berry, currant and plum—-with dark chocolate and toffee nuances—that persist on the palate. Balanced acidity and ripe, muscular tannins frame the midpalate flavors. This wine’s graceful style and cocoa powder finish make it a truly classic Rutherford Dust Cabernet Sauvignon. |
| Vineyard Notes: | To achieve the Rutherford Dust signature in this Cabernet Sauvignon, Provenance winemakers Tom Rinaldi and Chris Cooney selected 40 percent of the grapes from Beckstoffer Georges III and 33 percent from our estate vineyard. These two outstanding vineyards are located in the Rutherford American Viticultural Area (AVA)—Vineyard Georges III on the eastern side and our Provenance estate vineyards on the west—where the valley’s sun exposure, climate and soils are particularly well suited to Cabernet Sauvignon. To complement this fruit, we chose the balance from other exceptional vineyards in the Rutherford AVA and around Calistoga. |
| Winemaker Notes: | “It was a long and rewarding harvest, perhaps—with all due respect for 2001—the best of the decade so far,” says Cooney. “Vine balance (leaf-to-fruit ratio) was more consistent in 2006, promoting slow, even fruit ripening and a relaxed harvest. Berry size was smaller than average in Rutherford, leading to highly structured wines. The 2006 vintage quality looks excellent; our red wines show great depth, flavor concentration and velvety tannins, even at this early stage in their development.” |
