This Sauvignon Blanc Captures the personality of our Wildwood Estate Eineyard, located on the east side of the Rutherford AVA, along the Silverado Trail. Our Wildwood estate bottling shows the most citrus expression of our three Sauvignon Blanc wines. The majority of the wine was fermented and aged in Stainless Steel barrels and the rest in new French barrels for oak-spice complexity.

92 Points - Wine Advocate

“From the Wildwood vineyard, the 2017 Sauvignon Blanc Rutherford (100% Sauvignon Blanc) was barrel fermented and aged in 23% new oak and the rest in stainless steel for five months. It opens with gregarious note of ripe peaches, passion fruit and pink grapefruit with touches of lime zest and wet slate. Medium to full-bodied, it delivers mouth-filling citrus and tropical fruit flavors with a very frisky finish.” - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, October 29, 2018

Tasting Notes

With a lively display of citrus and ripe pear, the 2017 Wildwood Estate Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc emulates the innate characteristics found in this vineyard. Subtle notes of lemon verbena, a lovely minerality and a delicate creaminess are expressed. The wine has a silky viscosity and unfolds on the palate, revealing the subtle sweetness of ripe fruit and a perceived roundness from the texture and weight.  Soft, yet intriguing with a persistent nature and lengthy finish.

Vineyard Notes

Our Wildwood Vineyard’s Sauvignon Blanc vines, rooted in alluvial soils derived from volcanic and sedimentary rock on the east-side of Napa Valley along the Silverado Trail, yield a strikingly different wine than our Rutherford Estate Sauvignon Blanc vines, which are planted in west-side alluvial soils. The Wildwood vines produce wine with such unique flavors that we believe it merits a special bottling.

Vintage Notes

Overall, 2017 proved to be a very memorable vintage with slightly smaller yields but exceptional quality. A brief period of warmer than usual temperatures occurred during Labor Day weekend which accelerated the harvest in some areas but was perfect for ripening the fruit in the Napa Valley. Temperatures subsided just when we needed and the fruit was allowed to mature and ripen perfectly on the vines before harvest officially began. 2017 will be remembered as an intense and unpredictable harvest but one of tremendous quality, with wines showing great flavor intensity, perfect ripening and maturity, lovely balance and complexity.

Winemaking Notes

We hand-harvested the grapes in the early morning and then gently pressed the whole clusters as soon as they arrived at the winery. We fermented 22% of the grapes in stainless steel tanks, 5% in stainless barrels and 73% in French oak (of which 72% was new).
